The jaw-dropping fashions at the Costume Institute Gala never cease to amaze. Year after year, celebutantes and red carpet royalty grace the front steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for their benefit gala. This year's festivities were in honor of the late, great Alexander McQueen. And boy, did they pay him homage. This year I split my fashion posts up between singles and couples. It was too much of a fashion feast! Had to split it up into meals.
10. Best - Ashley Olsen in vintage
9. Worst - Jennifer Hudson in Vera Wang
I love me some J.Hud but are you getting a prom-like feeling from this gown? I am...
The color, the print, the shape - it all gives me life! Love this look on Solange. I think she stayed true to her personality but still served up uber glam.
7. Worst - Ciara in Prabal Gurung
I'm not in love with this Prabal Gurung design on Ciara for a few reasons. I don't think the color is the most flattering against her skin tone. I also think her hair should've been pinned up and her arm jewelry less dramatic.
6. Best - Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen
Sigh...SJP can never do wrong in my eyes. She paid homage to the man of the evening Alexander McQueen, but still stayed true to herself and played up her assets - her amazing body, of course.
5. Worst - Kerry Washington in Escada
This look did nothing for me. Kerry is so gorgeous and she's been bringing out some really amazing stunners during her red carpet events lately (see Kerry in Gucci during the MJB Honors Concert) but this look is just...bleh. Looks like a bridesmaid dress to me.
The awesome thing about the Met Gala is that you really get to take some risks with your look. I thought this was a quintessential Rihanna look. Love the train on the gown and the lace. I also kinda like the french braid, though I'm still not feeling the cherry red hair on her.
Although I love that Ms. Campbell paid homage to Alexander McQueen, and this dress in and of itself is a masterpiece, my major qualm is with her hair. These bangs and this mid-level ponytail make her look like a 12 year old playing dress up in mommy's closet. Not a fan.
2. Best - Nicole Richie in Jason Wu
Nicole Richie looked sleek and chic in this Jason Wu gown. I love the cutout detailing around the arms and she looks uber Hollywood glam with the soft waves and red lips. Definitely LBS-approved.
1. Worst - Serena Williams in Oscar de la Renta
Now don't get me wrong, Oscar de la Renta is one of my absolute favorite designers. And the dress is absolutely fab. But why in God's name did she throw this hat on? The royal wedding is over, no?

loved the details. Best dress of the night, imo.
i dont hate Jhud's dress. not the worst of the evening. Ilove that Solange is fearless with fashion but hair is not flattering to her face in this pic. ciara is unremarkable. SJP=love. Kerry boring regular-girl gown. This is an event where people usually go as avant-garde as they dare. womp-womp. Love RhiRhi's look although i would have chosen a different shade of red lipstick. Naomi should have saved one of those ass whoopings for who ever did her hair. I cant even appreciate her dress for feeling bad about that hairstyle. Serena got caught up in the royal wedding hype. either the hat without the feathery dress or the feathery dress and no hat but the combo was a no no.
ReplyDeleteoh i and i agree with shasha. Renee's gown was gorg!
ReplyDeleteIts crazy. I look an outfit in total Naomi could have definetly picked something from the new line of Alex, I don't get it, she picked that damn thing! Looks like a Prom outfit done wrong. I'm not feeling everybodies hair being pinned up, Beyonce included. Don't get me started on Pucci looking like McQueen. I really thought Iman killed it though, she still has it! I'm not feeling anything along the lines of Jhud, or Serena. I thought that Sarah looked the best, but thats because i still think of her as Carrie. I get that Serena wanted to be cute with the fasinator, but that wasn't the right way, nor was it the right hat.
ReplyDeleteLoved MK as well! I liked Rihanna's whole look too, even though she did look a bit like Ariel from The Little Mermaid. (First Blake and now Rihanna?)
