Cover Girls: Dawn Richard for Ghubar Magazine

Recently, Dawn Richard got dolled up for Ghubar Magazine courtesy young designer, stylist and good friend Ugo Mozie.

Just last year, I was covering his awesome fashion show for Aston Mozie with Coco & Breezy. Now he's styling celebs!

Dawn's Spread in Ghubar is nothing short of fierce. I'm loving the pieces Ugo styled her in and her haircut still suits her really well.

The sleeves on this piece take it over the edge for me. Love it!

Sneak Peek: Solange for Refinery 29

One of my absolute favorite street chic and local-based blogs Refinery 29, just tweeted a cutesy pic of Solange. Apparently they're shooting her for an upcoming story and they released the sneak peek above. She's rocking one of her faves Boxing Kitten, similar to the piece we spotted her in at Tao last week. I'm in love with this bra top - it's gorge. And her fro of course is fierce. Love it.

LBS Street Chic: Spotted in Union Square

Special shoutout to Shani over at Cashmere Cupcake for spotting me on the street and snapping this super cool collage of pics. I was on my way to Cocktails with Belle; an event hosted by A Belle in Brooklyn  (aka Demetria Lucas, creator of the "cutie run" from Let's Talk About Pep) in Union Square, when the ladies of Cashmere Cupcake and Tefftopia stopped me on the street to snap a pic! Since the event was an evening networking cocktail in the downtown area, I figured I would go for an effortless glam look with a bright-colored blazer and heels. And of course I had to throw on my favorite pair of heels and my turquoise double finger ring. Make sure you guys check out these fly bloggers - they're awesome!

LBS Weekend Chic: Twitpic Edition

For those of you who don't follow LoveBrownSugar on Twitter, I thought I'd give you a tiny update on my weekend ramblings. Me and my boyfriend went cruising around uptown today. That's me above (never mind my frizzy hair - blame it on NYC humidity) in one of my fave new H&M tops and some street vendor aviators.

I think one of my absolute fave activities on a sunny Saturday afternoon is thrifting. I've just recently moved to Harlem and to my surprise and delight there are some amazing thrift places in the neighborhood.

I scored this really awesome leather shoulder bag (pictured above) at the local Salvation Army. Dirt cheap - only $4.99!

I also scored this oversized printed button-up that I kinda turned into a summer jacket/dress. I layered it over my body-con mini and slapped a belt over it once I got home. Drab to fab? What do you think?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and Happy Daddy Day to all who'll be celebrating tomorrow ;)

Fierce or Foolish: Lala & Ciara

Gearing up for Lala and Carmelo's wedding, BFF Ciara threw her bachelorette party at Lux nightclub in Miami the other night.

Donned in a denim dress and neutral heels, Ciara rocked out with Lala in a body conscious color blocked dress. I actually really like Ciara's outfit choice. I mean, she has the body to rock it out clearly.

LoveBrownSugar Feature: Lovelyish.com

The lovely girls over at Lovelyish.com were nice enough to do a feature on me for their "Diary of a Fat Girl" series. I was both honored and flattered that they chose to spotlight me as a plus-sized fashionista. Special thanks to Jen for the feature! Be sure to check it out over at Lovelyish...

Here's an excerpt from my interview:

Lovelyish: You're obviously rocking it and your confidence is killer. Would you say that blogging affects your self-esteem in any way? Would you recommend it to others who may be on their journey to self-acceptance?

Christina: I definitely think it's an awesome self-esteem boost. It's one thing when your close friends tell you they love your style, but getting comments about my fashion choices from fellow bloggers and/or complete strangers from around the world gives me such an adrenaline rush! I think posting your looks takes a bit of confidence in and of itself because readers could always criticize you or leave negative comments. But once you're brave enough to post and you get positive feedback, nothing feels better.

Lovelyish:
Your looks are always executed flawlessly. I especially loved the outfit you wore in your entry "Platforms & Playgrounds" - the bold shoulders, the edgy accessories and those amazing lace-up booties - just perfect! But what I want do know is… what does a casual, just-running-to-the-grocery-store outfit look like for you?

Christina: For casual looks, I normally opt for simple pieces with really amazing details. I'm obsessed with leggings so it would most likely start there.  I have a few amazing pairs from H&M that have zippers on the sides which I think is a cute trendy detail for a staple. Depending on the season, I'd probably throw on an oversized tunic, a jeweled statement necklace and whatever flat shoe I'm obsessed with at the moment. My current shoe obsession is the Jaya Jelly Sandal from DVF (http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/60522). They're so cute and they remind me of my childhood days!

Cover Girls: Amber Rose for YRB Magazine

Blonde baldy and ballsy model chick Amber Rose recently did a spread for YRB Magazine. She's clearly channeling Marilyn Monroe pinup which I think is perfect for her...

A little classier than what she normally does but I feel like she fits the mold well.

And of course, I was pleasantly surprised to find they covered her up in this one.

Sexy, but still classy. Read her full interview with YRB Magazine HERE

LoveBrownSugar Chic: Mirror Image

We headed to the lake for these shots. It was such a peaceful day...

To say that I'm in love with these Jeffrey Campbell wedges, is an absolute understatement.

They are ridiculously fierce and they feel like sneakers - no exaggeration.

Oh the beauty and wonder of a wedge heel. I stole them (aka purchased them) from one of my fave divas who just happens to be my shoe size - Karen of WhereDidUGetThat. Ever need to check your makeup while you're bending down to zip these suckers up? No worries...mirrors on the heel baby!

I fell in love at first sight and had to grab myself a pair, as they were sold out everywhere since the style originally debuted last season.

Oh yeah, snagged this romper from...you'll never guess...Forever 21 for the win! Loved the lace deatiling on the shoulder...

I thought it would be a nice simple pairing with my turquoise jewelry...and nails. I used Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri in Sea Breeze. I love how these colors stay on so well and they dry faster than you can say "Sally Hansen". No, really...

It was a fashion match made in heaven.
*Cue song from Color Purple: "Me and you will never part...mah kee dah dah..."*

Fierce or Foolish: Solange Spotted at Tao

Solange was spotted this past weekend at Tao in Las Vegas rocking a curly fro (wig) and a cutesy Boxing Kitten mini dress.

As a lover of Boxing Kitten, I gagged when I saw this dress on her. I think she looks stunning. And the curly fro really suits her well.

LoveBrownSugar Fashion Countdown: Tony Awards

The Tony Awards premiered last night on CBS and above hearing my favorite actor's name being called for Best Actor (Denzel Washington won a Tony for "Fences"), I thoroughly enjoyed the red carpet moments. Here's a countdown with a few of my favorites -  chime in if you agree/disagree!

6. Lucy Liu

Although I'm absolutely in love with this Marchesa gown, I'm not sure this was the best pick for Lucy. The fabric, the shape and the draping make for an incredible gown. However, I think the light color washes her out a bit...

5. Paula Abdul

I must say, I'm normally disappointed by Paula Abdul's outfit choices but I do think this one in particular worked for her. The mermaid silhouette looks great on her dancer's body and I love the intricate detailing that went into the train. It almost looks like one of those convertible pieces that can be ripped off at the bottom convert to a cocktail piece.

4. Michelle Williams
Michelle rocked out with all black everything for the Tony Awards. Normally, I would say this was a snoozer because of the simple silhouette but I do love the high slits and the fact that it has a train. And those shoes are POW! Diamonds are forever, clearly. I still need to make it over to Broadway and catch her in her recurring role in Chicago. Sooner or later...

3. Lea Michelle

I absolutely love the color on this piece. Lea Michelle rocked this Zac Posen to the tee. Excellent lip color choice as the red clearly compliments the banana-colored yellow in the gown. It's so refreshing and elegant to see starlets rock a strapless piece with a well placed updo or chignon. Love!

2. Jada Pinkett

So maybe I'm a little biased. She's one of my favorite leading ladies in Hollywood and I just spent my Saturday and Sunday nights watching her offspring on the big screen. (Sidenote: I loved the Karate Kid remake with her son Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan - it was awesome hence why I went to see it twice) I thought she looked stunning in this red mini Marchesa gown. The signature pleats and the rich color had me at hello.

1. Scarlett Johansonn

Not only is this girl a knockout, she's always at the top of my best dressed list! It was love at first sight with this sparkly Elie Saab number fit for Emeral City. From the sparkle, to the rich color and the double-strapped construction, this look was ON POINT! And the hair and makeup definitely take it there.

Cover Girls: Rihanna for Elle Magazine

Rihanna's covering next month's issue of Elle Magazine and I must say I'm in love with the cover look. I'm a gal who goes ape over sequins and beading, so I'm absolutely in love with it.

The other pics from the shoot seem very Rihanna-esque I must say - not a vast departure from what we're used to seeing her in.

LoveBrownSugar Chic: naKIMuli Inc.

Some of you avid blog readers and fashionistas might have seen this lady's work around. Her name is Tennille McMillan and a few weeks ago Honey Magazine (via myself) did a fashion feature entitled "Funky Sweetheart" on her awesome clothing and accessories:

naKIMulic Inc is definitely a brand to watch. With inspiring shapes, colors and prints, Tennille is pushing her work farther than I've seen many indie designers go...

Here I'm sporting her Afrikan Hologram Dress ($100). I fell in love with the african print on the front and the fact that there's a psychadelic hologram design around back. And of course I love the exaggerated shoulders on it...

New artist Raye 6 was seen wearing this same dress at the MTV Movie Awards the other day. The colors are a little dull but you get the picture:

I'm absolutely in love with her accessories too..

She has these oversized Bow Brooches ($25), pictured above, that are super cute. You can pin them anywhere! I decided to rock mine round front. And they come in teeny weeny size as well.

Check out her work at naKIMuli Inc's Website

Cover Couple: Wendell & Sessilee for Contributing Editors

In a fashion spread entitled Two of Hearts, real life lovers - male model Wendell Lissimore (of Model City fame) and our favorite rising supermodel Sessilee Lopez - partner up (as if they aren't already joined at the hip) to show their love for high fashion and each other in Contributing Editor Magazine.

Contributing Editor Mag is a recent online find and it's safe to say I'm in love. The whole concept behind the site is to provide creative professionals with an outlet to showcase their amazing work. Mission. Accomplished. I love this spread...

I'm in love by the pieces chosen for this spread. The accessories are great and they really pulled off the entire concept with a consistent look but enough diversity to peak our interests...

I almost DIED when I saw this shot. The afros?? Genius...
What do you guys think? Can you tell they're in love?
