Fierce or Foolish: Chrisette Michele at Soul Train Awards

Exciting news ladies and gents! Tonight I’ll be hanging out with songstress and newly natural diva Chrisette Michele. She will be signing albums at the Carol’s Daughter Store in Harlem from 6-8p and I’ll also be attending a private listening session for her new album later in the evening. Aside from adoring her music, I’m in love with her style. Here the lovely lady graces the purple carpet at Soul Train Awards wearing a chic off the shoulder black frock and an uber glam sparkle turban. As you guys know from my Ten Before 2010 post, turbans are on my list of trends to incorporate into the wardrobe before the year is out. I was so inspired by InnyVinny I wore one today! (See Twitpic here) Anyway back to Chrisette...

What do you guys think of Chrisette Michele’s look? Also, what questions do you lovelies want me to ask her tonight? I’d love to get some of your burning questions answered. Either Tweet Me or respond in the comments section below!

Ten Before 2010

So normally around mid December, the blogosphere is chock full of editorial posts about Top (Insert # Here) Countdowns of the Year and Top (Insert # Here) Resolutions of the year and all that jazz. Well, this year I decided to be a step ahead of the game and announce my resolutions before the New Year. Well, they're not quite my resolutions because I'm resolving not to have resolutions this year. More on that in another post.

From Tough Love, October 2010
Rather, they're my style resolutions. But not for 2011. Just for...life. Going forward I resolve to take more fashion risks and take full advantage of my closet. Here are Ten Looks I'd like to try Before 2010 is over and gone. Can't say I will but, a girl can dream...

1. Sheer Chic รก la ProFreshStyle

I have about 2 sheer boyfriend-length tops in my closet that I have yet to accessorize up. If only I could be as bold as Christina and rock it Dorothy Dandridge style complete with wide-brimmed hat...

Giveaway: ShopSwagg NYC

Every true fashionista has it. And if they don't have it, they need it. Shop Swagg. You know, shopping savvy that has accumulated over years and years of shopping highs and lows, perpetual bliss, buyer's remorse and everything in between? Well in honor of the biggest shopping day of the year, I'd like to bestow a few of my Shop Swagg tips AND offer one lucky lovely in the NYC area a chance to experience an amazing and exclusive shopping event on December 1st. Black Friday can be overwhelming. Here are my Top Three Shop Swagg tips to get the best out of this inaugural kickoff to holiday shopping...

1. Be prepared: Come in with a plan of attack. No need to wait on long lines starting at 4am and then rish the front door of the store with absolutely no clue what you want/need. Someone will step on your toes and buy all the ointment you need to rub on them (if, of course, it's on sale). So plan ahead! Do your research about what deals there are and plan to hit up those stores based on what you really need...

2. Stick to your budget: Take a second and glance above at my last sentence. It ends in "based on what you really need". While everything in the Black Friday circular might seem like something that's too good to pass up. You will have to. Unless your name ends in Hilton, chances are you can't afford everything in the circular. So shop smart and create a budget for yourself. Your wallet will thank you the next morning.

3. If it don't fit, you must acquit (well...just quit). I think this rule is pretty much standard all year round. I know you think those "perfect" pants don't fit because of all that turkey and stuffing you ate at Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. However, if they don't fit right today, there's a good chance they just won't fit you. The holiday season is a dangerous time to shop for 'true to size' options. I end up gaining so many pounds between Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas parties and baked gifts from Granny, that I don't plop back to my true size until somewhere around January. And by that time, your "perfect" pants will probably be on clearance!

Ok on to the fun stuff. You're invited to ShopSwagg; an intimate fashion & beauty shopping event at one of New York City's most trendiest and upscale spots...

One lucky reader will win a ticket to the above event completely gratis compliments of ShopSwaggNYC:

Fierce or Foolish: Nicki Minaj Launches "Pink4Friday"

This morning in Times Square, Nicki Minaj announced the launch of her new limited edition lipstick for MAC Cosmetics, "Pink 4 Friday". She showed up donning a Martin Grant leather strapless piece and python heels...

While I happen to think this dress is killer, I'm not a huge fan of the accesories pairing or....the hair. Yikes! I would've toned it down with a great pair of black laceup stilettos and a statement necklace, minus the rainbow-colored weave. But hey, that's Nicki right?

What do you think - Fierce or Foolish?

Sidenote: Should I be embarrassed that I actually wanna try Pink4Friday when it comes out this week?? *Hangs head in shame*

Through The Grapevine

The boyfriend and I took a trip to Long Island's wine country a few weekends ago and had an amazing time. We did a few wine tastings, ran through grape vines and rode horses. Can't beat that. Though I can't stand the cold weather, fall can be a really great time for outdoors activity. Challenge yourself to get out this fall/winter instead of scowling at Daylight's Savings and crawling up into bed at 6pm. It's a beautiful time of the year...

Jacket: Vintage, Leggings: H&M, Riding Boots: Nine West, Bag: Vintage

If you live in the NYC area and you're into wine tastings and fun day trips, take a peek at my article for UPTOWN Magazine. It's my first major travel article. Enjoy!

Fierce or Foolish: Solange at Cecconi's Restaurant in L.A

So you may have noticed I have an undeniable obsession with Solange lately. My last Fierce or Foolish highlighted the songstress rocking a leopard & leather look. Well, there's a reason for the obsession. We're hair twins! I announced on Twitter a few days ago that I've officially chopped off my long locks and I'm now rocking a short curly head of hair a la Solange. No worries, pics coming soon!

In the meantime, can I say how much I adore this mustard silk dress and her perfectly contrasted accessories?? Loving the velvet shoes and her statement necklace. And the fuchsia lip is perfect! What do you guys think of the look? Fierce or Foolish?

Fashion Countdown: GLAMOUR Women of the Year

Wow, I haven't done one of these in a while! I'm back at it ladies and gents. After seeing some of the  red carpet pics from GLAMOUR's 2010 Women of the Year Awards in NYC last night, I had to pose the infamous question to you all - FIERCE or FOOLISH? You decide...

1. Janet Jackson - FIERCE

I thought Janet Jackson looked stunning in her all black ensemble. She's donning a simple black gown but the side buckles and the luxe fur add just a hint of edge and extra glamour (no pun intended) to the ensemble...

How I Rock: Letau Designs:

The lovely people over at Letau Designs asked me to bring this drawstring scarf to your attention, and being the accessories-obsessed scarf lover I am, I obliged! Above I'm sporting the Letau Designs Drawstring Scarf in Black, Grey and Creme plaid. The wondeful thing about these scarves is that they're not your traditional neckwear pieces! They come in lush fabrics, amazing prints and instead of just falling to the wayside, these scarves scrunch aned create an awesomely flattering silhouette around your neck.

Here's how it works...

This Is a Man's World

I challenged myself to take two menswear-inspired pieces and make them work, together. Voila! It's not such a man's world when you add the right accessories...

I salvaged this silk mustard oxford from the men's section of my local thrift. In the process of styling it, the bottom buttons flew off! Hence, the need to tie it up. I think here it looks even better than it did before...

Currently trying to find ways to incorporate these lovelies into the Winter rotation as well. They're quite possibly my favorite buy of the season. I posted about them HERE. Got rave reviews from the folks at MBenz Fashion Week after wearing these...

Top & Boyfriend Jeans: Thrifted, Shoes & Pearl Cluster Ring: Forever21. Bag: Cole Haan. Lips: L'Oreal Infallilible Lip Color.

Fierce or Foolish: Solange at RLife LIVE

Solange was spotted out the other night at the RLife LIVE event in NYC hosted by the Renaissance Hotel. She went for a chic downtown vibe with a leopard printed jacket, white oxford, leather shorts and black utility boots. I think she's certainly on trend and she looks young, hip and fun...
