LBS Beauty: How To Style Blunt Bangs

Photos: labellesblock.com, beautyriot.com
Ever since Michelle Obama emerged on the scene with her beautiful blunt bangs pre-inauguration, I've been secretly obsessed. Since I'm a curly/kinky girl, bangs are not really an option for me unless I decided to rock extensions.

I think bangs are such a fun way to update your hair look without having to go all the way by cutting your hair off all around. They also frame the face nicely and bring attention to the eyes. I actually used to rock them all the time! Check me out:

Anyway, for those of you brave enough to try bangs on for size, here's a cool video tutorial I found on how to style blunt bangs via BlogHer TV.

Check it out below:

LBS Fashion: National Wear Red Day

Happy Friday guys! In partnership with The Heart Truth, an organization who's mission is geared towards extending awareness about the importance of heart health for women, today is National Wear Red Day! Above is a pic of me wearing my favorite red blazer from LBS Chic: Sneak Peek post. Not wearing red? No worries, there's still time to show your support.

Every February, LBS attends the Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection showing at NYFW and it warms our heart seeing celebrities pour out their support for national heart health awareness by strutting the runway in dresses donated by top-tier designers like Oscar de la Renta, DVF, Zac Posen and more.

As someone who's lost more than a few family members and friends to heart health issues, it's a cause that's very important to me and I'm sure it is for you guys as well. Wanna get involved in a fun way? Check out the Red Dress Yourself App on Facebook.

It showcases the celebrities from years' past parading down the runway in red dresses designed by well-known and respected designers. You can upload your own looks wearing red and contribute to the overall community. It also provides resources about heart disease and how you can take action toward having a healthy heart.

Get into some of my favorite red looks on celebs I love:

Angela Simmons in a sprawling red gown

Queen Bey post-Blue Ivy, in a LRD (little red dress)

Amber Riley in a figure-flattering red A-line dress

Chaka Khan at Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection - February 2012

Get into the National Wear Red Day spirit with a few of my favorite red items of the season - everything from a red lippie to an Alexander Wang:

How will you celebrate the day?

Cover Girls: Amber Riley for Marie Claire

I was too excited to hear via Twitter yesterday that my fave Glee girl Amber Riley is one of the featured divas on the cover of Marie Claire. Ever since my Do Skinny Girls Have More Fun? post I've been a steady advocate for this young & fabulous plus-sized actress. She has an amazing sense of style and even won "Best Dressed" on E! Fashion Police earlier this year for her amazing SAG Awards look:

The Great Debate: Do Skinny Girls Have More Fun?

Jennifer Hudson: Before & After weight loss
The other night I found myself in the middle of an intriguing discussion on Twitter with a well-known maven in the fashion & entertainment industry. The discussion was so thought-provoking, I figured I would bring it to LoveBrownSugar and get you guys' opinion on the situation. As you all know, from my Curvy Girls Ode and all the hype that generated in the fashion blogosphere about that post, I'm very outspoken when it comes to the great debate about plus size vs. skinny in the fashion industry. If you haven't read it, check it out HERE.

So on last Tuesday evening as everyone on my timeline revved up for the premiere of BET's new series The Game, I stumbled on a tweet from a prominent black socialite and fashionista while she was watching a rerun of hit TV series Glee. I've always loved her sophisticated style as a plus-sized vet in the industry. So I was surprised and intrigued when I saw this statement from her on Twitter...
