LBS Feature: Elle Magazine

So yesterday I got my LIFE when I saw I was featured on Elle Magazine's online beauty section for my participation in the BlogHer 12 fashion show! I had such an amazing time (as noted in my Instaweek 8.7.12 post) and in the process I was interviewed by ELLE about my blog and my beauty look. Elizabeth Arden was the makeup sponsor and Paul Mitchell was the hair sponsor - loved working with both!

LBS Feature: The New York Times

I'm elated! I've been quoted by The New York Times within an article about the natural hair community. The lovely Jessica Andrews of Glamazons Blog contributed a beauty piece to the New York Times around the idea of natural-haired women and whether the obsession with "stretched" curls is the newest definition of "good hair". Remember when I did a post about the idea of a"curlism"? It's an interesting debate. [CONTINUE]

The Fab Five: Amanda Miller

You guys may remember seeing today's subject Amanda Miller as one of my very first Get Like Me interviewees back in March of 2010. As the Senior Fashion Market Editor at Saks 5th Ave, Amanda exudes chic. I mean, when you're directing the trends and buying decisions at a mega retailer like Saks, you kind of have to exude style.

I'm pleased to introduce a new series The Fab Five, highlighting five amazing ways to wear one killer piece. This first rendition is guest edited by none other than Amanda Miller! Check it out below:

As the Fashion Market Editor at Saks Fifth Avenue, I am a girl who still LOVES to play dress up in my closet. Whenever I leave a store with a new item I automatically daydream about different ways I will rock it. I usually love to buy transitional pieces that I can wear from spring to fall. One of my most recent purchases is this blackground floral print dress from H&M ($24.95). Here are 5 different ways I would wear this:

Vest: Saks Fifth Avenue Astrakhan Vest. Shoes: Christian Louboutin. Sunglasses: Oliver Peoples. Earrings: H&M

When it starts to get a bit colder a few great outerwear pieces are essential, especially in New York. I have this Astrakhan vest from Saks Fifth Avenue Collection that I love to wear with just about everything.

I would wear this over the dress with printed stilettos (and black tights depending on the weather). This is cute enough for work and afterwork drinks.

Leather Jacket: Elie Tahari. Shoes: Jimmy Choo. Leggings: Wolford. Handbag: DVF

To transition this dress into early fall when the weather just starts to get a little crisp in the morning, I would wear this back to my Elie Tahari black leather baseball style jacket.

I would probably go no hosiery for September, but when it gets a bit colder I would wear this with black opaque tights and rock this at work.

Blazer: Elie Tahari blazer. Earrings: Vintage. Ring: H&M. Clutch: Nancy Gonzalez. Wedges: Sam Edelman.

If I want to be more casual a great go-to item in my wardrobe is my Elie Tahari blazer.
I would throw this over the dress and wear it with comfortable Sam Edelman wedges for a trip to the park in the Fall.

Trench: Viktor and Rolf for H&M. Flats: Jimmy Choo. Handbag: Elliot Luca. Earrings: Vintage.

It seems that Spring may have finally sprung, so I love pairing this Viktor & Rolf trench coat for H&M that I got a few years ago (one of my favorite things in my closet) over this dress.

Mixing floral print with the defined waist trench coat is ultra feminine and I can wear it back to my Saks Fifth Avenue black ballet flats for a comfortable Sunday brunch.

Skirt: J Crew. Wedges: Boutique 9. Bag: Rebecca Minkoff. Earrings: Vintage

Summer is by far my favorite season (probably because I am a summer baby) and I absolutely LOVE dressing for the summer. One of my favorite tricks is making a dress into a different silhouette, so here I put my dress on with a chambray J. Crew skirt over it.

This gives the illusion of a knit top. I would wear this with my new Boutique 9 white wedges for a summer date night.

Would you rock your dress this way? Any other tips/tricks for getting mileage out of this piece?

LoveBrownSugar Feature: Coco + Creme

If you guys haven't already bookmarked Coco + Creme website, hop to it! Love their site, and they keep me up to date on fashion & beauty trends. I'm honored and humbled to have been featured by them today in their Real Life Muse column. Check out a snippet of my Q&A with the editors:

C+C: You inspire a lot of people with your blog but who are your inspirations? Who do you look to as a style icon?

Christina: I have so many! Tracee Ellis Ross is my biggest one. Diana Ross too; I love that old school glam. I’m an old school head; I love the older black stars. I love a Bille Holiday flower behind the ear. I really like the fashion of the ’30s and ’40s too. Currently, I love the Olsen twins and their hobo chic look as well as June Ambrose and of course, Sarah Jessica Parker!

C+C: How would you describe your personal style in 5 words?

Christina: Ugh! This is so hard, but I would say: vintage, bohemian, romantic and downtown chic.

C+C: It’s interesting that you chose those words, how does your personal style reflect your personality?

Christina: I’m really creative and my style reflects that. But I also have a strong business background. I’m very calculating and strategic so that’s a part of my style too. I like to mix business with pleasure. It’s all about balance.

LoveBrownSugar Feature: VOGUE Black

I am completely overwhelmed and overjoyed with this news. I found out over the weekend that yours truly has been featured in VOGUE!

Words can't even express how excited I am to be among the company of style greats like top model Ajak, stylists June Ambrose and Crystal Streets, and bloggers Tamu McPherson of All The Pretty Birds and Karen Blanchard of WhereDidUGetThat to name a few!

Photo courtesy Swagger360 for VOGUE Black.
I have to send a HUGE shoutout and internet hug to my good friend Guerre of Swagger 360 for snapping this amazing photo of me. Although my feet were killing me, he made me look like a glamazon. That's what great photographers do right? I saw Guerre everyday on my way to the tents at NY Fashion Week, snapping away and capturing beauties on the NYC pavement. I'm just glad to call myself one of his featured subjects. Anyway, check out the feature over at VOGUE Black.

Oh yeah, here are my outfit credits. (A few of you asked about my pink floral top from [THIS] post).

Fur coat: Vintage, Top: American Apparel, Pants: H&M, Shoes: Forever21, Fringe Bag: H&M, Ring: Forever21

LoveBrownSugar Feature: RACHEL Rachel Roy

Ok, my last bit of shameless promotion for a while, I promise! Just wanted to share this photo for you that the wonderful Steven Duarte shot of me last week...

This is one of the printed scarves from the RACHEL Rachel Roy collection. She sent us one scarf and asked each Honey editor to style it their own way. I decided to do a trendy look and rock it as a turban. The pics turned out great! Some of us rocked it romantic, others edgy or funky fresh. To see how each of us styled the scarf, check out the article on Honeymag.com...
