Miu Miu Short Film "The Door" Featuring Gabrielle Union, Ava Duvernay & More

The Door, a short film produced by Ava DuVernay, is the fifth of an installment for Miu Miu's Women's Tales. The short film is a celebration of the transformative power of feminine bonds, and a symbolic story of life change.

Starring Gabrielle Union, Alfre Woodard, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Adepero Oduye and singer Goapele, the film follows main character (Gabrielle Union) from a place of deep sadness to a place of power, by way of her loving friends and her immaculate Miu Miu wardrobe. I think this is such a clever way for Miu Miu to highligh their collection in a creative and powerful way.

I also LOVE that Miu Miu chose award-winning film producer Ava Duvernay for this installment. Ava was the first African-American woman to win the Best Director Prize at Sundance Film Festival, for her second feature film, Middle of Nowhere, in 2012.

DuVernay explains, "In the film, characters arrive at the door of a friend in need, bringing something of themselves. Eventually, we witness our heroine ready to walk through the door on her own. The door in the film represents a pathway to who we are."

I love everything about this film. From the impactful visuals, to the strong acting (there's no dialogue, just pure emotion!) and of course the gorgeous Miu Miu separates. It's a visual masterpiece.

Flavor of Friday: MAC Viva Glam, Miu Miu Jewels & More

Happy Friday folks! Here's the tea with fashion, beauty & lifestyle this week:

Everyone's favorite barbie Nicki Minaj has partnered up with MAC once again to support their Viva Glam collection. All proceeds of the collection go toward supporting HIV/AIDS research. The lipstick and lipglass are available from February 9, 2013 to August 2013 and retail at $15 each.

It's officially the Holidays. The notorious time of the year when physical, mental and emotional health are incredibly important. Whether you're chowing down on Mama's mac & cheese or reminscing about loved ones who aren't with you during this holiday season, make sure your health is in a good place. New website Black Health Matters targets relevant issues about health & wellness.

I'll never forget my first pair of high-end designer shoes. It was a pair of Miu Miu patent leather Mary Janes and I purchased them using my employee discount as intern at Saks 5th Avenue. Sigh...the good old days. Anyway, it's safe to say I'm a STAN of Miu Miu and I hava been for years. The line, a trendier younger sister to Prada, has just recently explanded to included glitzy jewels and baubles. I'm living and dying.

NYC-based divas, one of my curly-haired staple brands SheaMoisture is back for a second year hosting a Bryant Park Holiday Shop. They're offering personalized hair and skin consultations, expert styling and grooming services, specials, giveaways and fun events from now until December 16th. 3 products for $25 (products regularly $9.99 each) and bar soap: 3 for $10 (soaps regularly $4.99).

My girl Jenell Stewart from KinkyCurlyCoilyMe.com will be there on December 15th 3PM-7PM hosting the shop, so make sure you stop by!

Enjoy your weekend guys!

Introducing...Shoe Candy!

I have to admit, I have a bit of a problem. Accessories are my weakness, shoes are my Achilles heel (no pun intended). So if I obsess every now and then, bare with me. I'm in love...

These babies I snatched up at Forever21 this past weekend. I tweeted about them on Saturday. Apparently they are actually Miu Miu knockoffs...pretty damn good ones I must say considering the F21 pair are $25.80 and the originals are $590:

(From left: Forever 21, $25.80. Miu Miu, $590)

Anyway, I plan to debut them during fashion week if the powers-that-be don't frown on me for wearing F21 knockoffs *shrugs*. In the store, I contemplated getting the black pair on the left with tiny white polka dots, but decided the floral ones were more fun and adventurous...

So, it has come to my attention that many of you beauties are shoe aficianados like myself.  For those of you who share my insanity for shoes, now YOU can contribute to LoveBrownSugar!
