Confessions of a Shopaholic: Urban Outfitters NEW Fly Girl Inspired Collection

Even though they were around only 15 measly years ago, the 90’s are back in fashion. Trendy favorites from the Pac and Biggie era—like the dark plum lip— are seen on street fashion blogs and on actually streets. The “Poetic Justice” braids, stretchy acid washed jeans, combat boots, see through neon accessories, and black maxi dresses are here to stay. But, you can’t revisit 90’s fashion without remembering the Fly Girls.

The leading ladies of In Living Color are re-making fashion history thanks to Urban Outfitters. They have inspired a collection of the best fashion that the 90’s had to offer including zany prints, rompers, the classic baby doll dress, lots of crop tops, hats and acid washed everything.

My favorite pieces from Urban's hip, young and flirty collection include: the Sparkle & Fade High-Rise Faux Leather Pinup Short, the Silence & Noise Illusion Mesh Tee, and the Silence & Noise Silky Zip-front Dress

And, no lie; I am a sucker for that Sparkle & Fade Mesh Inset Maxi Skirt. I’m a 90’s baby. I have a thing for mesh and leather shorts.

The accessories are the coolest part of the collection. The five panel hats, platform sandals, cool jangly bib necklaces would bring an interesting touch to a still modern leaning sense of style. I particularly loved the Mel By Melissa Shoes Macadamia Sandal since it's wearable through spring and into summer. The jelly sandals comes many cute colors like pink, green and nude. So you can forget about Snapbacks and Tattoos, this spring it’s all about crop tops and cut outs.

Feel free to check out the collection here and tell us what your favorites are below!

LoveBrownSugar Chic: Polka Player

The weather is warming up - time to show a little leg!

My personal style rule is only to flaunt one asset at a time. So when the limbs are on display, the arms and cleavage are tucked away.

I've really grown to appreciate my legs. I used to hate them. In this outfit post "Long Walk", I talked a little about how self-conscious I used to be about wearing shorts.

Now that I've grown more confident in my body type, you can't tell me anything. *flips hair*

I mixed prints for this look rocking a polka dotted pair of shorts and an ankara fabric clutch.

This is the same Della x Urban Outfitters clutch/wallet that was gifted to me in celebration of the collection launch. You can read more about the collection HERE.

The fitted cap and army fatigue jacket make this look a little less girly.

Always sporting a colorful arm party.

Exclusive: Della x Urban Outfitters Collaboration

For their latest collaboration beginning May 1st, Urban Outfitters has teamed up with socially conscious, LA-based fashion line Della. Della works with a community in Hohoe, Ghana to create handcrafted products while providing jobs, education and skills training to women in Ghana. I've come to adore companies that not only put out unique and original pieces but also add social responsibility into the fold. Proceeds from the collection will go toward providing employment, education and financial stability for poverty-stricken women and men in Ghana.

The folks at Urban Outfitters were nice enough to send over a sample of one of the pieces they will be debuting for the collection - this super cute wallet/mini-clutch.

I'm in love with the print and the fact that it's versatile enough to be a wallet or a small clutch for a night on the town

Operating under the motto "Carry Change", all of Della's products are made by hand from completely vegan and sustainable materials by seamstresses in the village of Hohoe.

"The purchase of each Della product supports dozens of women in the Volta Region of Ghana who are working for a positive change in their life," says Founder and former fashion stylist Tina Tangalakis, who turned a volunteer trip to Ghana into a lifelong mission to better the livelihood of the local women.

The exclusive diffusion line features eight styles crafted from traditional Ghanaian textiles including a printed bralette top, $44, printed shorts, $44, a printed romper, $54, printed bomber jackets, $69 and accessories including a woven headwrap, $24, a 5-panel hat, $29, a backpack, $49 and an iPad case, $42.

LoveBrownSugar Chic: Airing The Laundry

So I finally have a real winter coat. Yes, it took me until Christmas to buy a winter coat that wasn't paper thin. Though I've had some good times with my Zara cape, it doesn't keep me warm at night. No, it literally doesn't keep me warm at night. So, I hightailed it to Burlington Coat Factory and picked up this Laundry by Shelli Segal beauty.

It's warm, it's a great neutral color that matches with everything, and it has a fur collar. Three must-haves that were on my check list.  It also saves enough room for layering. Here I paired it with a polka dot top from H&M and my Suki Jeggings ($89.00) from Silver Jeans.

It's easy for your ensemble to look drab and boring when you're piling on neutral colors. I keep it fresh by adding pops of color in with my accessories.

These sneaker wedges have been collecting dust in my shoe corner for a few months now. They've finally made their debut.

I'm in love with them. Scored them at H&M!

I'm not usually a hat girl, but I've gotten more into them this season. It's hard getting these curls under anything honestly.

I'll have a beauty post up later this week highlighting the beauty products I used in this post as well so stay tuned.

LoveBrownSugar Chic: Parkside Layers

You guys probably remember this tweed cape from my Harlem Daze post last year. Yes, this winter it made a reappearance. It's probably one of my absolute favorite Zara purchases. Because it's not as thick, I end up having to do some heavy layering when I wear it.

This Urban Outfitters Deena + Ozzy handbag has been holding me down since October. I picked it up on one of my shopping sprees to Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta when I visited. It was on sale! From $79.99 to $39.99. I wanted to squeal. Y'all know I love a good steal.

I've been more into wine/plum lips for the winter months as opposed to bright red. I'll be putting together a post of my favorites soon. The one I'm wearing above is Makeup Forever Aqua Rouge in Raspberry ($24.00). It's super longwear so I can go out for dinner, drinks and more and not a smudge. It's like magic or something. Also, if you're following me on Instagram (@LoveBrownSugar), you've probably seen me posting pics of my new winter protective style. I have extensions from Indique Hair in Bounce Deep Wavy mixed with Bounce Coil Curl. I love the volume. Feeling like Auntie Diana Ross these days (*3 snaps in a Z formation*).

Cape: Zara (similar here from Macy's) | Blouse: Forever 21 | Pants: Old Navy | Boots: Nine West (similar here) | Bag: Urban Outfitters (similar here) | Cuff: c/o Stella & Dot | Necklace & Ring: Street Vendor | Watch: Michael Kors

LoveBrownSugar Chic: Mixed Media

So I'm officially obsessed with this leather dress from H&M (few seasons old). I wore it in an outfit post during NYFW and again earlier this season and I found yet another way to rock it with this outfit. Honestly, it's one of my favorite seasonal pieces because there are so many different ways to work it. This lovers+friends ($166.00) version is very similar. And if you're more of a skirt person, this Urban Outfitters ($99.00) version might strike your fancy.

I had been searching far & wide for a really awesome denim shirt. I found this one at American Apparel ($64.00) back in September and it's been holding me down. ASOS ($43.10) has a super cute version with a studded collar.

It's stretchy so I can wear it long or tie it at the waist and wear it cropped. Goes really well with leggings (my lazy day uniform) and pretty much anything else. It's also great for making dressy outfits a bit more casual.

So remember I told you about my backpack obsession this season? It's still going strong...

I found this leopard & leather number at Urban Outfitters ($79.00) and we've been inseparable ever since.

The booties! Y'all know I love a good bootie for the fall/winter season. I snatched these up at Bare Feet Shoes, but they're available at a few different retailers. Find a few different colors at Zoo Shoo ($38.90) - super affordable and cute.

For the face, I've been really enjoying my new foundation & powder combo from Cover FX. They were nice enough to gift me a set of products at their last press event and I've been loving them ever since. I use their Total Cover Cream Foundation ($42) and Matte Setting Powder ($32) to get complete coverage that's light and natural-looking. I layered my LiSi Cosmetics Flushed Pressed Powder Blush ($7.90) on the cheeks for a hint of color, and topped it off with my MAC Ruby Woo ($15).

As for the curls, I achieved this look with a braid-out. As promised, later this week I'll be posting about my updated hair regimen including how I achieve this look and the products I used so stay tuned.

LoveBrownSugar Chic: Spikes & Stripes

I'm at it again with another statement cape. What can I say? The post-Xmas sales had me at hello...

I scored both this Pendleton cape and these Deena & Ozzy spiked booties at Urban Outfitters. I love the subtle pops of color the cape adds to any ensemble. And a statement platform is always a plus in my book. Height, style & comfort = win.

LoveBrownSugar Chic: The Statement Poncho

Once upon a time, there was a girl-who-loved-prints. She obsessed over them and wore them daily - even in the cold bitter days of winter. Although she had maxis, and dresses, and blouses alike, all she ever wanted in life was - a statement poncho.

She searched and she searched to no avail for the perfect fit. But alas, the girl-who-loved-prints, couldn't seem to find the perfect wool cape for her. Like Goldilocks, she tried and tried but each one was either "too big" or "too small", "too hot" or "too cold". The girl-who-loved-prints thought all hope was lost...

When suddenly, on a haphazard excursion to the wilderness of Urban Outfitters, she stumbled upon...the one. She grabbed it and never looked back.

And they lived happily ever after...
