I'm not sure how many Baltimore Club music fans we have on here, but the title of my post is a nod to all you fans out there that get hype in the club whenever you hear that song. Well "Watch Out for the Big Girls" is right, because it seems the media is finally embracing big women who are doing it for themselves. In a society that is overly obsessed with the super skinny silhouette, and anorexic starlets, it's so refreshing to see a plus-size diva like Gabby Sidibe of "Precious" on the come up. She is on this month's cover of V Magazine as part of their Size Issue along with Dakota Fanning, hitting stands January 14th.
I applaud V Magazine for stepping outside of the box and showing the industry how beautiful it is to embrace your curves:
Gabby Sidibe also has an awesome feature in Harper's Bazaar this month. I must say I'm refreshingly surprised yet pleased:

“I feel like a model. It justifies everyone in my life who told me I wouldn’t be anything until I lost weight. It justifies that little girl who cried because she didn’t think she could be in front of the camera. And it’s for other girls who feel like they can’t do this or that and feel like they’re not pretty and not worthy of having their photo taken.”
Congrats to Ms. Sidibe paving the way for big sistas worldwide. For her full interview and more photos check Harper's Bazaar.
dekota fanning is very unexpected but very well deserved!
ReplyDeleteOkay I didn't even know Gabby got the cover because all I heard was how Dakota looked so Haute and 'not sever years old'. I had no clue. But I'm happy for Gabby. It's different for magazines and media with her because she's not a jennifer hudson where a couple weeks on a treadmill can even her out. You take her the way she is. There's no way around it. I love it. I'm just wondering what she's going to do after this.
