Cover Girls: Jill Scott Covers EBONY Magazine

Jill Scott (also know as my twin) covers the May issue of EBONY Magazine with her adorable son Jett in their motherhood-themed issue. BlogHer has the exclusive scoop on the cover story. Apparently Jill opens up about life as a single mother, finding personal time and her love for her 3-year old boy.

Here are a few snippets from the interview:

Jill on motherhood:

"Motherhood is getting your hands and your feet in the soil…When Jett puts my face in his hands and tells me, 'Mommy you're so pretty' or smells me, it's so wonderful."

Jill on being a single-mom:

"That I-can-do-it-by-myself mentality is a lie. I'm sorry if I hurt anybody's feelings, but you cannot do it all by yourself. You need a village: some aunties, grandmoms, friends. I couldn't do this by myself and would be a fool to think I could."

Love how candid Jill is about her role as a mother - can't wait to uncover the new issue! For more quotes from the article, head to BlogHer for a sneak peek.

The May issue of EBONY Magazine will be available on newsstands April 16th.

Ask LBS: White Lace Dresses

A recent wardrobe query came through my inbox that I thought would be helpful for those of you attending events this summer like summer cocktails, weddings and the like. The white trend is big this season, and lace is always a huge hit.

Cover Girls: Jill Scott for Ebony Magazine

I'm on the cover of Ebony Magazine! Hah, not really. My twin, the lovely R&B songstress everyone conveniently mistakes me for is though. Doesn't Jill Scott look gorgeous? Ever since I saw her perform hits LIVE from her new album a few weeks ago, I've been anxiously awaiting her new album slated to release in June.

Ebony Magazine's June Music Issue takes a look at some of the hottest artists in 2011 and also includes a full photoshoot with the lovely Jill Scott. When I ran into Amy DuBois Barnett at the Ebony "For The Love of Color" event, she mentioned Ebony's revamp. I think they're doing a great job. Can't wait to unwrap the new issue.

Will you be picking up a copy?

Cover Girls: Halle Berry for Ebony Magazine

So remember the other week when I attended the Ebony Mag + Macy's For The Love of Color event? Well I had a little chit-chat with the Editor-in-Chief of Ebony Magazine and she mentioned that March's issue was going to be amazing. Well, she wasn't lying. Peep who's on their cover...

Hot! Will this woman ever look bad? What do you think about the cover? Soundoff below!

Ebony Mag + Macy's For The Love of Color Event

Last Thursday night, I had the pleasure of attending a collaborative event hosted by Ebony Magazine & Macy's called For The Love of Color. A commemorative fashion exhibit in honor of the late Eunice Johnson, the event was chock full of color & style. I had the pleasure of running into celebrity stylist June Ambrose again. I hadn't seen her since last September's Fashion's Night Out so of course I was enthralled.

June Ambrose in Lanvin x H&M
Ms. Ambrose is the queen of the fierce turban, so when she complimented mine I almost fainted - what an honor. Here she is with my girl Claire of TheFashionBomb.

I also ran into my fave beauty guru Sam Fine. I was so proud to be wearing my Iman Cosmetics bronzer that he specifically recommended I try during his last blogger event. (Check out Sam Fine's Top 10 Beauty Lessons for more on that.) He says I'm too light-handed, "More is more honey!" Next time I'll go a little more intense.

I also ran into Desiree Rogers, former White House Social Secretary and now CEO of Johnson Publishing. She looked absolutely amazing in Louis Vuitton.

Isn't she fab? Can't wait to see how they revamp Ebony Mag. Stay tuned!

LBS Street Chic: NYFW Day 1

With fashion week in full swing, and the tents buzzing with industry insiders, you're bound to see amazing outfits on the streets outside Lincoln Center. Here's a taste of what I saw on Day 1...

Elaine, Style & Beauty Editor, Ebony Magazine
I stopped this lovely lady named Elaine Welteroth in front of the steps of Lincoln Center because her outfit was so cute! Love the high-waisted look, and her shoes are bomb...
Can't go wrong with lace-up booties. Heavy contender for Shoe Candy, no?

Fashion Editor, ??
So I didn't catch this young lady's name or affiliation, but I did capture her amazing outfit. She mentioned that she was a fashion editor (I believe for Harper's or Glamour), evidenced by her amazing outfit. You guys know I'm a fan of leopard print...

Joy, Fashion Blogger, JoyLovesFashion.com
Can you tell she's a fellow fashion blogger? This young diva caught my eye with her standout harem pants (again, I'm a lover of animal print).
