Fierce or Foolish: Jordin Sparks' New Figure

So it seems every curvy girl in Tinseltown these days is taking to the gym and reemerging to the public with a newly slimmed down figure. American Idol Jordin Sparks is the newest specimen for observation. She showed up to the Muhammed Ali Celebrity Fight Night this past weekend in a little black dress with a slim & trim new figure.

What do you guys think about her new look? Furthermore, do you think curvy girls in the entertainment industry (ex: Jennifer Hudson) are lauded or frowned upon when they drastically slim down? Comment below and give me your honest opinion! I'll be using your commentary for a piece I'm writing. More details soon...

  1. I think that Jordan Sparks, Jennifer Hudson and Raven Symone slimming down is a good thing that can give us a versatility in the entertainment industry that we didn't have before. In an industry where being sexy counts being full figured isn't always a plus. You always get to play the best friend or the comic relief but you never get to play a real person with a life and feelings. I think that if more people view us as women and not just the friend or the comic maybe our voices get to be heard just a little bit louder. Plus its a health benefit I don't know about you but I have know a lot of women who were healthy and big and then suddenly they are too big and they are sick and they are having limbs removed because of diabetes. That disease will take you out of here fast and that is truly no joke.

  2. I think she looks great. She was a beautiful girl before the weight loss too though. Now it looks like she has legs for days. Of course they are lauding for losing the weight, because celebrities aren't allowed to be imperfect like the 'rest' of us. As long as she did it because she wanted to, and it wasn't external pressure then I love it.

  5. I think all these girls look beautiful and healthy. I'm glad to see that none of them have taken their weight loss to the extreme. They look toned and fit, just look at that definition on Jordan's legs. That's sexy! I think overall they are lauded for their weight loss because Hollywood still strongly places emphasis on the idea that "thin is in" but I've also seen them criticized for caving into peer pressure and letting others' standards of beauty dictate their image. In the end they are beautiful talented women just as they were beautiful talented women before the weight loss, and if they are happy and healthy then it really doesn't matter if they are a size 4 or 14.

  7. she looks great and still very curvy i dnt find a problem with them wanting to slim down as long as its for themselves and not because of the pressures of being in that industry.

  9. Mai's post said it well. I think she looks great. Like her and love JHud (who I don't think looks so hot something is still off). I get it. It's a career move as well and I'm not knocking anyone for doing things to their advantage that will keep them doing what they love.

  10. i think no fat gurl wants to be fat ( fat like you cant buckle shoes or walk far not superficial like i have cellulite fat) im a fat gurl their is a difference in accepting your size and loving ur size and i think rich celeb should not be fat especially when your in an industry based on appearances. doctors have to go to medical school to be doctors, celebs need look good to be celebs. i love jordin's look a lot more than jennifer hudsons i think she need to gain some weight but as i was saying if u have all that money u can afford a trainer, a nutritionist so on & so forth cause from experience i know that if you have the right support system loosing weight is not as hard and with money you can pay for that.

  12. They look great, my problem is that the media and public opinion makes it look like "ok NOW it is alright to love and accept them, they are thin/thinner" Jennifer and Jordan were curvy (not fat). Jennifer said she has been overwhelmed with all the attention. Oh yeah NOW she is acceptable. She was acceptable before as well as talented and BEAUTIFUL as is Jordan, Raven. Nothing wrong with wanting to look better, feel better and healthier, but the message is unless you are THIN you are unacceptable. That is the WRONG message. I am currenly a size 14/16 I was a 22/24. I lost weight to feel better and for health reasons (High Blood pressure) and the benefit is I do look better and and can wear more fitted clothes but I was acceptable as a woman and child of Yah before the weight loss PERIOD!

  13. WOW! When did this happen?! There is always pressure in Hollywood to lose weight. If they do it, I hope they are doing it for themselves. I think in J.Hud's case she wanted to lose the baby fat. As long as they are happy and healthy :)

  14. I am all for anyone losing excess weight as long as they do it the healthy natural way through proper diet and exercise. I am glad for her and think she looks great!

  15. She looks great! Regular people like us give people like these girls a hard time when they are curvy and they lose the weight but like some of the people who commented earlier said they are celebrities and they are suppose to look good... I represent for curvy women too but i think we should also stay in shape you cant have all that meat moving where it wants. You can't just be big and not trying to advocate being healthy... Losing weight makes you look and feel good and nobody should be knocked for wanting to improve or enhance themselves.

  16. I think she looks fab! You can still tell that she is curvy girl. Jordin is only in her early 20's so, being a young woman in my early 20's as well, I believe that's great. Looking at that picture is definitely motivation for me to continue to hit the gym. She was beautiful before, and still beautiful. Go Sparks!

I believe that whatever makes you happy is what you should do. Whatever that may be!

  18. I'm glad she lost the weight. She is even more beautiful now. Black women need to get fit and stop thinking being overweight is okay. Obsesity is one of the leading causes of deaths for African American women.

  19. They both look beautiful! I think what's dangerous about "fat" celebrities slimming down is all the attention they get once they do. They are beautiful and talented regardless of size, but once they are trim suddenly they are the center of attention. For young and impressionable women, I think it can reinforce the idea that the only way to be heard and noticed is to be thin. Of course that's not Jordin's or Jennifer Hudson's fault, its just an unfortunate side affect of the society we live in.

  20. I loved her before and she still looks fab now, same as JHud. At the end of the day, their careers centre on their appearance and being ripped time and time again about your weight can't be easy for a woman coming to her own.
But as much as I applaud them and their conscious decisions to hit the gym, at the back of my mind I find it all hypocritical. If they liked being big so much, why thin down? Same as model Tocorra from ANTM....makes no damn sense! You carve your career around being full-bodied and make statements about skinnier women and then BAM! You cave to the mould...

I was actually gonna do a BLEURGH about this too after I saw her and Tocorra at another event.

  21. Jordin looks great pre and post weight loss and she looks healthy pre and post weight loss ...there is NOTHING wrong with slimming down as long as it is done in a healthy manner and as long as the individual does it for his/herself and not because of the media

  22. I think Jordin looks amazing! But she was always beautiful. As for Jennifer Hudson she looks a hot mess especially on that new Essence cover...her weight loss doesn't look natural to me.

And honestly, the slimming down of thick celebs is becoming old & tired. Like why do it? Everyone keeps claiming health reasons & wanting to look better but neither Jordin, nor Jennifer, nor Toccara were what one would label as fat. It's not like they were so huge they couldn't fit through a doorway or bend over and pick something up. They just had extra meat on their bones & in my book that's ok.

I don't like the pressure these celebs are under to be thin b/c being thin isn't everything. I get made fun of all the time for being skinny and being thin doesn't mean every outfit looks better on you, sometimes you need curves to fill things out. Lost my point & this comment is longer than I originally planned. Smootches!

  23. Fierce. She was lucky enough to keep some of her thickness! Lookadem legs.
