Fashion Countdown: 2012 CFDA Awards Top 5

Fashionistas of color came out in full effect last night on the red carpet of the 2012 CFDA Awards. From stylist June Ambrose to socialite Shala Monroque, here are my top 5 favorite picks - let me know if you agree!

5. Selita Ebanks

Model & spokesbeauty Selita Ebanks showed up to the CFDA Awards in a floor-length Herve Leger gown. Figure-hugging and sleek, I loved this silhouette on her. And she had cascading waves to match.

4. June Ambrose

June Ambrose gave her signature edge with a touch of sophistication in this fashion-forward Chris Benz gown (can I tell you how much I adore Chris Benz? Love him!) I loved her soft curls. I'm always a fan of big hair, clearly.

3. Shala Monroque

I love how quirky and unconventional Shala Monroque went for the CFDA Awards. She always finds a way to look chic while expressing her personal style.

2. Solange

Solange looked glorious in yellow once again. That must be her color. She rocked out in a textured Marni dress and equally textured accessories. She went daring and mixed prints but struck the perfect balance between eclectic and classy. Love!

1. Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana stole the show last night with this cascading black gown by Prabal Gurung. It's sultry, it's better than a little black dress, it's everything. My absolute fave.

Which one was yours? Who else should've been on the list? Soundoff below!

Fierce or Foolish: Zoe Saldana Attends Beat The Odds Awards

Last night in LA, Zoe Saldana showed up to the 21st Annual Beat The Odds Awards hosted by Children's Defense Fund. It honors high school students who beat the odds by overcoming obstacles and still achieving academic success. Zoe showed up in a ladylike dress and heels for the occasion.

What do you think of her look? Fierce or Foolish?

Fashion Review: 2011 Met Gala (Couples Edition)

Who doesn't love a fab duo? The great thing about the Met Gala is that it's pretty easy for stars to find a partner-in-crime for the anticipated fete. Most celebs head to the gala with their favorite designer in tow. Others (a la Queen Bey) opt to bring along their superstar hubby. Either way, nothing warms my heart more than a stunning couple on the red carpet.

Jay-Z and Beyonce
Beyonce and Jay-Z are definitely on my "Best Dressed Couple" list. They both looked stunning and uber glamorous. Jay- Z dressed to the tee in his white Tom Ford tuxedo and Beyonce in her Pucci gown. Power couple indeed.

Karl Lagerfeld & Blake Lively

Chanel muse Blake Lively sported a grecian-style Chanel gown in a muted gray. Her soft waves and neutral makeup completed the fresh look. And of course Karl was dressed in his usual, all black and motorcycle gloves. Has anyone ever seen his real hands?

Diane von Furstenberg & Barry Diller
I adore DVF. She's such a classy lady. Always sophisticated and always dressed appropriately for someone of her status. Love it.

Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson

I swooned when I saw Diane Kruger in this jaw-dropping Jason Wu frock. I'm in love with the intricate beading u top and the seductive slit takes it to a whole new level.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

JLo rocked the red carpet in a deep fuschia Gucci gown with floral detailing around the shoulder. I thought this was a great look for a gala focused on the art of attire.

Amar'e Stoudemire and Rachel Roy

How cute are Amar'e Stoudemire and Rachel Roy together? They both look classic but stunning. Can't wait for their clothing line collabo to kick off in September.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats

I'm normally not a fan of brown dresses but Alicia Keys manages to pull off this Givenchy couture look flawlessly. My only wish is that she topped off the look with a bright red lip. Swizz looks cool too.

Tory Burch and Kanye West

How cute are these two on the red carpet? Kanye West donned a Tory Burch suit for the occasion. I heard through the grapevine, Tory Burch is a major Kanye stan.

Zoe Saldana and Francisco Costa

The canary yellow looks really great against Zoe's skin. I wish there was a bit more to the design, but honestly you could throw a potato sack on this girl and she'd look good.

What do you think of the couples? Any faves?

Zoe Saldana for Vanity Fair

This past weekend I spent a good amount of time walking around the streets of Harlem and scouting out my next potential uptown neighborhood of residence. I got to thinking about all the great things that have come out of Harlem- the people, the culture, the Renaissance, my Mom (she grew up there). I adore the subtle cultural elements of Harlem, like it's distinct architecture and just the overall livelihood of the area. I started thinking about how cool it would be to do a photoshoot there.

Well soon after the thought ran across my mind, I came across these beautiful photos from Vanity Fair's September Issue! It features Zoe Saldana channeling the feel of the roaring 20's. I LOVE shoots like these. Zoe looks gorgeous, her outfits are impeccable, and who wouldn't want to have handsome black men dressed in SHARP attire as props??

This last one reminds me of that famous picture by Art Kane "A Great Day in Harlem", only there's only one female in the picture. I LOVE the men's attire...SHARP!
