Last night at the Carol's Daughter flagship store in Harlem, I had the opportunity to join Lisa Price and a small group of editors and bloggers to celebrate the upcoming release of their Monoi Collection.
The Monoi Collection is a Tahitian-inspired line of hair products that will premiere nationally on May 1st. Made from floral-infused virgin coconut oil, the products have been clinically proven to reduce hair breakage by 92%. Isn't that crazy? Of course upon hearing this, I knew I had to get my hands on it.
Lisa Price discusses the history of Monoi Oil |
Lisa Price, founder and owner of Carol's Daughter explained "The idea came to me years ago when I was researching raw materials and I read about this very rare Tahitian oil - coconut oil infused with tiare flowers. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it."
After years of searching for this rare oil, she finally got her hands on it and has created a new line of products with Monoi oil as the main ingredient. "It took 5 or 6 years until I got my hands on real minoi," says Lisa about her proud she is to unveil the new collection. I myself can't wait to give these products a try. She passed around samples of the Monoi butter and it smells absolutely divine.
While there, I bumped into some old friends and made a few new ones. I met Sherrell from Organic Beauty Vixen, I hung out with my office buddy Deena Campbell (Associate Editor at UPTOWN), bumped into one of my favorite tweeters Sarah of StyleIT and I finally got a chance to meet Patrice of Afrobella!
Overall, I had an amazing time and I can't wait to start using the Monoi products. Starting next Monday and for 3 weeks after that I'll be reporting on my experiences with the products for a new series called "Monoi Mondays". A few other bloggers will be participating as well. Stay tuned for updates and future giveaways!
